Agape Island
Copyright 2010

Synopsis: Seven castaways find themselves shipwrecked on a deserted island.  However, much to their surprise, they find the island isn’t deserted at all, but rather home to many “fictional” island characters, including pirates, mermaids, misfit toys, Captain Fork, Peter Pain, Stinker Bell, the lost children, and even the Dread Pirate Roberto.  Following a humorous storyline, much like Gilligan's Island,  the castaways come to understand what true love is all about.  They are able to see their own faults mirrored through the actions of their counter-egos (the fictional characters) and come to realize love endures all things.  Based on 1 Corinthians 13.

Flanagan's Boys
The Story of Boys Town
Copyright 2013

Synopsis: Flanagan’s Boys is taken from the life work of Father Edward Flanagan who pioneered Boys Town in Omaha, Nebraska in the early 1900’s.  This play depicts key points in his remarkable story, with characterizations of real boys who lived at Boys Town.  Spanning two decades the story depicts his call to serve the lost boys of Omaha through the building of Boys Town, encounters with skeptics,  and near disaster with a fire during the Depression.  Due to the length of Father Flanagan’s actual life story which spanned several decades, the writer has chosen to work within a shorter time frame, borrowing from some of the most moving moments of his journey in order to represent his deep love and care of his boys as revealed through two main characters.  Certain elements in the story may not be in exact chronological or historic order.

The Mission of Joan of Arc
Original script by St. Therese of Lisieux
Adapted by Lee Hotovy with original music
Copyright 2009

Synopsis: The famous story of St. Joan of Arc, as written by a young Carmelite nun in the late 1800's (St. Therese of Lisieux), reveals her love for the saint, and her admiration of her martyrdom. St. Therese's artistic style of prose evokes a melodic sense of communication between Joan and her voices, showing the contrast of two worlds. A similar sense of spirit and kindredness exists between the two saints in this piece because Joan heard the voices and responded, and Therese imagined what this would have been like so well, that she became a "little Joan" in her  depiction of the classic. The play covers not only the call of Joan, but also the accomplishment of her mission, the martyrdom, and her entrance into heaven.
